Hello Friends
Well, my favorite month is flying by and I’m a little tardy at getting this little note out to you.
I had a blast at my last house concert, a birthday party concert on June 3rd. Those who came had a good time as I debuted songs from my children’s musical: Beautiful Day for a Wonderful Day, songs from which I have sung from time to time in random video clips that I then have shared on social media for fun.
It was such a fun time sharing how the story of the musical developed and how my “real life” fed into the composition of the songs woven into this delightful musical. The rainy weather like today made me reminisce about the time I wrote the song No Use Complaining…the opening lyrics are:
“There’s no use complainin’ if the skies are simply rainin’, the worst that’ll happen is you’ll get wet so don’t you fret”.
Yes that song’s from the musical. I was inspired to write it on a rainy day much like today when I was complaining about working in the rain laying down cement pavers along the chain-link fence in order to keep my dachshund named Stella from making a back yard escape with Layla, my beagle. Funny how moments marinate into song ideas.
My birthday house concert was a “new me” that was been born out of this sickness. I’m not afraid of “being myself” anymore. That’s huge. But, when one’s life gets threatened by a sneak attack health crisis and then one gets a chance to review their life only to find oneself drawing up short, when a new beginning begins, one makes changes because they can. My house concert was the beginning of this resolve to share my music, to work with it, to not keep hiding it and such. So, here is my next musical offering.
Well, it won’t be long till Thursday July 9th at 7 p.m. when I lead an Evening of Worship with Rachel in the choir room at Christ Episcopal Church. I love the piano there and right before I’d gotten sick this past winter, I’d play on it from time to time and found myself wishing I could share music in that space. Well, that dream’s becoming a reality.
I’ve put together a songbook of old worship favorites and some originals. It’ll be “just me” at the piano for now, unless I find some volunteers who want to sing along with me. You follow my reasoning. I’m offering this concert to you, as I love worshiping and taking others to the throne room in worship. Just come, sit, sing along if you want, listen, pray or whatever. This is a promise I made when I was sick in the hospital and I’m grateful to share an evening of worship with you.

I hope you mark your calendar and come worship with me on Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m. for about an hour or so.
Much love, Rachel
