Well, here comes Christmas…and I want to run and hide.
Mid December 2025
What a reaction right? To be honest, it’s a reflex I have inside about the “season of giving” that gets to me. I never feel like my gifts are enough, ever. I feel I have some kind of inner debt that just won’t be “paid” which jumps up and pesters me at “the merriest season of all”, Christmas!
I know, it’s not supposed to be about that, but Christmas for me is a still a season I dread. Maybe one year I’ll be healed from this nonsensical idea that “I’m not enough, that any gift I give is never enough to touch the blessed heart of another with love”. Yep, I admit it, I need to let go of this idea, and just BE Christmas in spirit, the love of God through me to others and from others in the flesh.
With that said, I want to share a few things.
Holidays can be tough because they remind us of the folklore of happy days gone by, when home life was dreamy and whimsical and when we perhaps still believed in Santa Claus and before we had to work 12 hour shifts and hold down 2 jobs to pay the bills.
Here is a song I wrote for those who yearn to be with loved ones, but, are not. This song I dedicate to my brother and wife who still wait to be united under one roof. Their love is strong and in God’s Time they wait to be Together, Finally. I felt that many people can relate to this yearning, and I wrote this song “as if”…the dream of being together was a reality. Why not, right?

Thirdly, Rachel and Friends is pushing hard to prepare for our upcoming concert on Saturday, January the 17th at 10 a.m. I’ve written a bunch of songs specifically for the show and hope to see you in the audience in support of Episcopal Relief and Development. I assure you, that your presence is precious and that YOU ARE ENOUGH and your gift to Episcopal Relief and Development is significant. God does amazing things with whatever gifts we bring and offer from the heart. The QR code is up and ready for you to click and your offering will let you “give in honor of Rachel and Friends”. And, we thank you in advance for sharing your time and love with us. We’ll video the show too, so, there will be future ways to “be there ” if you can’t be there in person.
